We are happy to introduce you to the multi-talented artist, actress and singer-songwriter – DESANKA!
[Blaster] Thank you for your time Desanka! What music did you grow up listening to?
DESANKA: I grew up listening to classical music because my dad is an opera composer.
[Blaster] How did you become involved in music production?
DESANKA: I grew performing in musical theater and was very involved in choir, which led to me studying opera. I never thought of pursuing pop music until a friend of mine wrote an amazing song and urged me to give it a go! The rest is history.
[Blaster] How would you describe your musical style?
DESANKA: I would describe my musical style as feel-good pop. However, the Social Distance Christmas EP has more of a pop-punk and alt-rock sound, which I think is so much fun to listen to.
[Blaster] Who writes your songs?
DESANKA: I typically collaborate with other writers and artists when making music. For the Social Distance Christmas EP, the writing process consisted of me, Gabi and Maria Campo (featured artists), and Alex Carlson (producer).
[Blaster] Is there a hidden meaning in your music?
DESANKA: I would say that my music is all very straight forward, which I feel is reflective of my personality. I definitely say what I feel.
[Blaster] Do you collaborate with other musicians? What is that process?
DESANKA: Collaborating with others when making music is the best. The creative process of bouncing ideas off of each other, leading to a final product that you never even imagined of accomplishing in the first place is magical.
[Blaster] Where do you find your artistic inspiration?
DESANKA: I draw artistic inspiration from myself and my life, but also from my friends and what they are experiencing and going through.
[Blaster] What skills have you learned that will help you in your music career?
DESANKA: Some skills that I have learned that will continue to help me in my musical pursuits include taking everything one step at a time and making sure that everyone I surround myself with is positive and productive.
[Blaster] Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?
DESANKA: I co-own Cold Coffee Entertainment with my boyfriend, David Pinder. Cold Coffee Entertainment is a music marketing and public relations collective in Los Angeles. I am also a member of SOCAN, BMI, and ASCAP.
[Blaster] Who are you inspired by?
DESANKA: Pop artists that I am constantly inspired by include Lennon Stella and Julia Michaels. For the Social Distance Christmas EP, I was inspired by “The Greatest Time Of Year” by Aly & AJ, and Relient K’s Christmas album called, “Let It Snow, Baby… Let It Reindeer”.
[Blaster] What are the main topics for most of your songs? Do you think topics will change overtime?
DESANKA: Looking back, it seems as though the themes of my songs tend to be about relationships – whether that’s friendships, loved ones, etc. However, the Social Distance Christmas EP breaks away from those expected topics, referencing the holiday season during this global pandemic.
[Blaster] What are you working on right now? Did you release something in the past?
DESANKA: I just released the Social Distance Christmas EP, which consists of holiday music that you didn’t know you needed in 2020. I put together this 2 song collaboration with my best friend and Broadway actress, Gabi Campo, as well as her sister and USC vocalist, Maria Campo. Our goal was to provide listeners with the festive spirit that we all desperately need amongst this global pandemic. We teamed up with pop-punk producer, Alex Carlson, to create our relevant title track and unforgettable cover of “The First Noel”, resulting in feel-good music that brings joy and excitement to these unexpected circumstances. I have released 7 singles in the past as well.
[Blaster] What do you feel is the best song you ever released and why?
DESANKA: I think both singles from the Social Distance Christmas EP: “Social Distance Christmas” and our rendition of “The First Noel” are my favorite songs that I have ever released because they are both Christmas songs, which is one of my favorite holidays, and they both have a pop-punk and alt-rock feel. Also, the fact that I got to write these songs with my best friends makes it even that much more special.
[Blaster] What would be your dream collaboration, with any musician or producer?
DESANKA: My dream collaboration would probably be with Hayley Williams of Paramore, A Day To Remember, or with Marshmello.
[Blaster] How do you balance your music with other obligations – school, hobby, job?
DESANKA: I definitely have a lot going on in my life, which can get hard to balance at times. But luckily, I feel as though I have gotten pretty good at managing my time, setting personal deadlines for myself, and making daily lists that help me stay organized.
[Blaster] At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?
DESANKA: I hope people can relate to my music in any way that may helpful to them and just feel re-energized and positive afterwards.
[Blaster] Would you like to give any message to your fans?
DESANKA: I appreciate my fans and followers so much, and would just like to thank them for all of their support!
