She started releasing her music at eighteen years old with her self-titled debut album that included ten tracks all written and composed by her, produced by Simone Momo Riva. We are happy to introduce you to a talented musician from Italy – MIKOL !

[Blaster] Thank you for your time Mikol! What music did you grow up listening to?

MIKOL: I grew up in the middle of classical composers like Tchaikovsky and big legends like Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash or Dolly Parton. This is because I’ve started to get close to music because of ballet when I was 4 years old but then my father used to play country and rock records in the car when driving me back home. Later in my teenage years, I’ve got closer to other artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, John Mayer, Miley Cyrus and bands like The Wombats and Blink-182.

[Blaster] How did you become involved in music production?

MIKOL: I’ve started to write poems in English for fun when I was at elementary school and then started to learn how to play guitar and put my words on some melodies. When I was fifteen, I got injured and I couldn’t proceed with my figure skater career that I was working on at the time. So I got closer and closer to music and songwriting. Writing songs saved my life. Then I’ve started to perform at a local tv show once a month and support some local artists in their live shows in bars and pubs. After two years many people were asking for some recorded music, so at eighteen I went into studio with Momo Riva and we built my debut album.

[Blaster] How would you describe your musical style?

MIKOL: I define myself a country artist, even if I do have many other influences. I love the storytelling of country music and it just comes natural to me to write with that style when I write my songs. Then, depending on the vibes that I want to create , I love to go pick different elements from other genres. For example, I loved a more pop beat for my song “Jersey”, a more rock-electric guitar for “Dancing 4 Ourselves”.

[Blaster] Who writes your songs?

MIKOL: I love to write all my songs. The songwriting is my favorite part of making music. I like to collaborate with other songwriters and I’m trying to do it more and more. There is a song called “Stay Away” in my debut album, that it’s been written with Vittoria Bacigalupi, that I’ve met during a show in Veneto and Morgan Ashley that I’ve met in Nashville. All the other songs you listen to in my two albums have been written and composed by myself. I’m working on collaborate more with other songwriters at the moment so if there’s anybody out there who would like to write with me, feel free to contact me.

[Blaster] Is there a hidden meaning in your music?

MIKOL: Yeah absolutely. I love to put details that only the person for who is the song about know. My songs “I Hate U” and “Like She Does” are full of these things. I don’t think I’ll ever reveal for which person the songs are dedicated to because I love that the people who are listening to are free to picture whoever they want on their minds. As a Taylor Swift’s fan I’ve learned how funny and interesting hidden messages are as a songwriter. She’s the best with it!

[Blaster] Do you collaborate with other musicians? What is that process?

MIKOL: Yeah I love to work with producer Momo Riva who arranged and produced my first two albums. He introduced me to so many talented artists from my region who played an instrument in my records or with who I play live shows. For almost every song it all begin with me playing the song with my guitar in his studio and then together we decide which kind of arrangement will fit better. We record the instruments we are able to play by ourselves and then, if needed ,we call other who comes to the studio and contribute with their talent. I really love to play with other people because i always learn so much from them.

[Blaster] What skills have you learned that will help you in your music career?

MIKOL: I’ve been in sport as a ballerina and figure skater for the first fifteen years of my life and what I’ve learned is determination. No matter how many time you fall, what counts is how many times you get up and try again. Keep trying is the only thing that will take you forward. At the end of the day is all about how willing you are to work hard for your dreams. I’ve learned discipline which is essential for not giving up and to be professional. Every dream requires a lot of sacrifices and so in many times it’s hard to keep choosing this road. When you play a show, when you hear your song on the radio is all beautiful but discipline is what makes you picking up the guitar and practice and keep work even when nothing comes. It’s what makes you be on time, organized, prepared and professional when it comes to make music as a job.

[Blaster] Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?

MIKOL: I don’t have a record label at the moment, I’m independent. I became an ISSA member last year and it’s such an honour to be part of a world of so many talented authors.

[Blaster] Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

MIKOL: In the everyday life. I don’t have a particular place or ritual for finding artistic inspiration. I just love to watch a lot of documentaries, talk to people, experience different things and find stories to tell. Living is my main inspiration.

[Blaster] What are the main topics for most of your songs? Do you think topics will change overtime?

MIKOL: Probably love in all of it forms. From the teenage first love to broken hearts, to the love for my family and friends and the places I’ve been to. I think what changes the most is the point of view. You grow up as a person and you evaluate things in a different way, so when you are fifteen you probably get mad to a person for breaking your heart and then you turn twenty-three and you write a song about understanding that the future of this person will be better with someone else. I went from dreaming about one day going in America from my bedroom, to actually go there and become the first Italian artist to win an award for country music at Texas Sounds. Experiencing what it really means to step in the music business is another thing that changed my prospective on writing ove the years.

[Blaster] What are you working on right now? Did you release something in the past?

MIKOL: II’m currently working on my third studio album, on some collaborations with other artists and on a special project that I can’t reveal right now but it will be a step forward in my career. In the past I’ve released my debut album “Mikol Frachey”, a Christmas song during quarantine called “Christmas At Home” and my sophomore album “Untypical”.

[Blaster] What do you feel is the best song you ever released and why?

MIKOL: This is the hardest question. I would say “Tennessee Whiskey Girl” because I never get tired of playing it in live shows and it keeps giving me the same amount of grit that I need even after six years that I wrote it.

[Blaster] Who are you inspired by?

MIKOL: Resilient and passionate people. Everyone who is contributing in making the world a better place by being kind, respectful, humble. The list of people that inspire me goes from celebrities like Dolly Parton to the lady at bakery in my hometown who woke up everyday at 4am to make bread and always finds a smile for everyone no matter what.

[Blaster] What would be your dream collaboration, with any musician or producer?

MIKOL: Too many! There are so many incredible artists out there that I’m a fan of that the list is endless. I would love to have the chance to write a song with Taylor Swift because I love her way of playing with words and makes everything sound so poetic. I would love to have the chance to collaborate with my favorite band The Wombats because I would like to experiment that type of sound and see how alternative rock and country music will meet. In terms of production, I really would like to make a record with Shane McAnally and Jimmy Robbins one day.

[Blaster] How do you balance your music with other obligations – school, hobby, job?

MIKOL: I’m currently studying at Berklee Online so it makes it easier to manage my schedules because I can study everywhere at any time. As I said before, what keeps you going is discipline. Since was a kid I was trained in having ballet five times a week and go to school so I’ve always been used in being busy and manage different things. My parents always taught me that when you make a commitment, you take it to the end. I make sure to do for as much as I can things that I really love and care about so they won’t sound like an obligation but I do understand that it’s not always possible. In those cases, I try to focus on my main dream and try to find an experience to write about even in the things that I don’t like.

[Blaster] At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?
MIKOL: I hope that in sharing my feeling and my stories someone out there will feel less alone. I’ve struggled through bullying during my freshmen year of high school and I’m currently struggling through fibromyalgia so I would really love to sound like a possibility of making your dreams come true no matter what you’re going through.

[Blaster] Would you like to give any message to your fans?

MIKOL: Thank you so so much and I love you. I know this sounds obvious but I really want to thank every single people who supported me and my music. I wouldn’t even have the chance to do this interview and bring my music out of my bedroom without your support. Thank you for caring and listening. I’m working on this special project to meet as many of you as I can so I can’t wait to share it with you.
