We are happy to introduce you to the rising multi-talented artist- Curtis!

[Blaster] Thank you for your time Curtis! What music did you grow up listening to?

CURTIS: I grew up listening to a lot of genres – mostly old school R&B, 90’s R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop.

[Blaster] How did you become involved in music production?

CURTIS: I started off as a dancer in a group with my family members. From there I got into writing songs and performing in talent shows before I finally produced a demo of what became my very first single called “Flame” back in 2002.

[Blaster] How would you describe your musical style?

CURTIS: I think my style is a mixture of genres. I fuse R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop into my creations. Lyrically speaking, I write about experiences in my life and try to make them as relatable or entertaining as possible for the listener. Musically, I find sounds that either make me want to dance or influence my emotions somehow.

[Blaster] Who writes your songs?

CURTIS: I write all of the lyrics and sometimes collaborate with other artists if I feature them on duets or remixes. For the production end of the songs, I collaborate with other producers and beat makers to find sounds that appeal to me.

[Blaster] Is there a hidden meaning in your music?

CURTIS: Nothing other than talking about life experiences. Sometimes it can get a little heavy or I might keep it light or romantic – just depending on what mood I’m in at the time.

[Blaster] Do you collaborate with other musicians? What is that process?

CURTIS: Every album I’ve collaborated with other artists – singers and rappers. I love it. I love working with other people to create magic. That’s what the experience feels like and once the song is completed, I’m always amazed at the other artists’ creativity. It’s a fun process that I always look forward to.

[Blaster] Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

CURTIS: I’m inspired by life in general. Oftentimes, ideas for songs just come out of nowhere. I always credit God for my ability to write. Once I start I just keep going and before I know it, I have a complete song.

[Blaster] What skills have you learned that will help you in your music career?

CURTIS: The music business is an ever-changing business. Always new things to learn. One thing I’ve realized about myself is that every time I release new projects, I feel and hear the growth in all of my abilities from songwriting, singing, and performing. I’m always open to the changes in the business and always willing to learn new things.

[Blaster] Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?

CURTIS: Since I began releasing music back in 2002, I’ve always been independent. I run my own independent record label and music publishing company.

[Blaster] Who are you inspired by?

CURTIS: Some other entertainers who have inspired me along the way – even today include Michael and Janet Jackson, Prince and Usher to name a few.

[Blaster] What are the main topics for most of your songs? Do you think topics will change overtime?

CURTIS: For my new album, the overall theme is love. Especially in this time with all of the negativity in the world news, I believe we all need love. Topics do change over time, but love is a consistent topic every time.

[Blaster] What are you working on right now? Did you release something in the past?

CURTIS: I’m currently promoting my latest album, “Love… Life.” It’s my third album and I’m very proud of the work that my team and I have created.

[Blaster] What do you feel is the best song you ever released and why?

CURTIS: That’s a hard question, but I will say one song of mine that means a great deal to me is one of my latest singles called “Me & My Heart.” It’s so personal to me. It helped me heal from a very dark period of my life just recently. Every time I hear that song, it makes me emotional, and it’s a very inspirational song. I love it.

[Blaster] At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?

CURTIS: I always aim to inspire, motivate and entertain. I really hope people take away from my music joy and love. I want them to feel inspired. I want them to feel motivated to pursue their own goals and dreams and I hope I can get people dancing and singing along with my work. I always love that.

[Blaster] What would be your dream collaboration, with any musician or producer?

CURTIS: I would love to do something with Janet Jackson. I’ve loved her work from the beginning. I think she’s amazing. Our music is similar. To do a dance song and video with her would be epic.

[Blaster] How do you balance your music with other obligations – school, hobby, job?

CURTIS: Music is a constant in my life. It’s always a part of me every day even when I’m working on other things. Without music in my life, I honestly don’t know what that would look like. But just like life in general, everything is a balance. You just have to prioritize.

[Blaster] Would you like to give any message to your fans?

CURTIS: I appreciate all of the support. I hope you enjoy the new album and just remember to live, love, laugh. Celebrate every day! Thank you for your support.
