18 years old rebel and diva spirit conquers the music scene! We are happy to introduce to you up-rising Rnb/HipHop singer-songwriter & producer: T O K Y O !
[Blaster] Thank you for your time Tokyo! What music did you grow up listening to?
Tokyo: I grew up listening to blues, pop and rnb. When I was little I loved listening to Shakira, Beyonce and Rihanna, especially what was on the radio at that moment. Then I discovered Etta James and Aretha Franklin.
[Blaster] How did you become involved in music production?
Tokyo: Being an independent artist I’ve learned during the years how to do all the things by myself, so that also means making the production of my songs. I can’t say that I’m a professional but I’m still in the process of growing my producing skills.
[Blaster] How would you describe your musical style?
Tokyo: My musical style is varied because I like to listen to a lot of genres and also mix them in my songs. I believe that in this way I could become a complex artist and also expand the listeners’ range.
[Blaster] Who writes your songs?
Tokyo: I write my own songs and that is truly satisfying.
[Blaster] Is there an hidden meaning in your music?
Tokyo: Not really. I mean I write love songs, break-up songs just like anybody else but sometimes I like to add a bit of that rnb sensuality or a bit of that hip hop ghetto roughness.
[Blaster] Do you collaborate with other musicians? What is that process?
Tokyo: I haven’t collaborated with other artists yet but I have collaborated with producers from different countries.
[Blaster] Where do you find your artistic inspiration?
Tokyo: I just listen to my mind and my heart. My life is my biggest inspiration and I love to make true songs that can spread true feelings.
[Blaster] What skills have you learned that will help you in your music career?
Tokyo: I believe that dancing, playing the piano, knowing how to work with different softwares, speaking English, being open-minded and doing my own makeup and hair everytime are the skills that have helped me a lot until now and I’m sure that they will also help me in the future.
[Blaster] Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organization?
Tokyo: No, I am an independent artist and till now I kinda’ like it.
[Blaster] Who are you inspired by?
Tokyo: Beyonce is my idol but I’m also inspired by Summer Walker, Danileigh, Jorja Smith and Rihanna. I feel like all together they perfectly reflect my style.
[Blaster] What are the main topics for most of your songs? Do you think topics will change overtime?
Tokyo: To be honest I’m trying to vary the topics in my songs but at the end of the day I notice that they are still the main topics that anyone sings about, presented in a different way. But I believe that’s alright because in topics like love, madness, excitement everyone finds themself. My topics are mostly these ones but of course I like to add my mark on them.
[Blaster] What are you working on right now? Did you release something in the past? What do you feel is the best song you ever released and why?
Tokyo: I’m working on a lot of projects right now. I have released 4 songs a while ago that can be found on all platforms and I’m planning to release more soon.
I believe that “Come my way” is the best song because it is the most beloved one and I also think it is the most powerful with a catchy vibe at the same time.
[Blaster] At the end of the day, what do you hope people take away from your music?
Tokyo: I just want them to catch my vibe, to find themselves into my music and feel good while listening to it.
[Blaster] What would be your dream collaboration, with any musician or producer?
Tokyo: I would really love to collaborate with the artists that I mentioned earlier and of course with their producers. If I get to that point I can declare myself fulfilled.
[Blaster] How do you balance your music with other obligations – school, hobby, job?
Tokyo: I’ve always had to deal with this but I can honestly say that it has never been too hard for me and I’m really glad that during the years I managed to schedule my time well so that I could do both, school and music.
[Blaster] Would you like to give any message to your fans?
Tokyo: Guys, be true! Live your life at the fullest, be good and honest with yourself and the others, have fun, keep your mind positive and stay healthy! And after these…. it’s all about music.
Much love,
Tokyo
