They’re just two souls trying to find their way in this world. Using their music as a portal to different worlds, different teachings, different perspectives and the ultimate questions of life. We are happy to introduce you to their amazing music band – “Red Door Walking

[Blaster] Hi guys, thanks for your time! How did the band come together?

Red Door Walking: Abbey Cox (AC) – I met Andre sailing around the world on a cruise ship . At the time I was performing in the main show and Andre was the sound technician. One day we were at the beach in Ibiza and Andre told me I would be a great vocalist in a pop/rock band and that we should start writing music. I laughed it off thinking he was joking but three years later here we are! So I owe Andre a huge thank you for believing, seeing and persevering in his vision. Although for the last couple of years we have been separated on different side of the world, we still managed to write and arrange music at the distance.

[Blaster] Describe the band or the band’s music in one sentence?

Red Door Walking: AC – A collision course of misfits creating music from all different genres and life lessons.

[Blaster] As a band, is there one person who is the leader (so to speak) or do you work and write together tossing ideas around? How do you stay focused as a band and to avoid common band disagreements in all facets, including writing, recording and making the decisions?

Red Door Walking: AC – The great thing about Andre and I is that we work well together and bounce ideas off each other. If I write a tune he will arrange it into an awesome piece and if he writes the song my lyrics will flow. We just fit together and only usually argue when we both understand that a song didn’t yet reach it’s full potential. We don’t force things. The music seems to write itself and we are merely vessels.

[Blaster] Do you collectively have a favorite album?

Red Door Walking: Andre Marques (AM) – We both love P.U.L.S.E by Pink Floyd. There are so many reasons but the live quality of it is incredible, the composition and more importantly the way it makes us feel. We have spent many hours driving around England or Portugal listening to this album and it’s the first one we can both think of that we love There are so so many,.

[Blaster] Is there any hidden meaning in your music?

Red Door Walking: AM – All the time.
AC – Even in our name. It’s hidden, you’ll have to find it. haha.
AM – Maybe you will someday we love to give clues.

[Blaster] For upcoming bands, can you tell us what the secret is of keeping a band together for so long?

Red Door Walking: AC – Communication.

[Blaster] Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

Red Door Walking: AC – My stuff is always old school, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Billie Holiday. Which then moves on to Amy Winehouse, Johnny Cash. One thing we both have in common is our love for 80’s synths and as I am sure you can hear that’s a huge driving force in our music. My first ever song I wrote was inspired by a journal input I was writing in my diary. When I read it back a tune popped into my head and since then, they have just kept on coming.
AM – I am not a lyricist and so I only compose or arrange music having in mind feelings that cannot simply be described by words. It’s my way of channeling all those feelings and emotions. Thankfully I have Abbey by my side and she can always stamp my songs with beautiful words and sentences.

[Blaster] Any plans for new music? When can we expect a new album or EP?

Red Door Walking: AC – We have a brand new single coming out on March the 15th called “Nicky”. Followed by “Soar”, another single that will be released around April. We are also working on our second album so keep your eyes peeled for that!

[Blaster] Where can people see you perform next? Do you have a 2020 tour scheduled yet?

Red Door Walking: AC – Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic our gig dates were cancelled however we will be performing live as soon as we can once the venues open up again.

[Blaster] Tell us about your latest song. Was it specifically inspired by anything or anyone? Where was it recorded??

Red Door Walking: AC – “The Tap Song” which is in our EP “Thin Walls” was written about my Nan. She was a huge inspiration to me when I was a young girl. She always watched me perform around the house and always sat in the front row when she came to see my shows. Although this song was arranged and created in one day in the studio ,I had already started writing the lyrics with my Nan in mind.
AM – This EP was recorded in Portugal (SP’AM Studios) last year, just before the pandemic started. We were really lucky with timing!

[Blaster] What is one musical goal that you have had for this year?

Red Door Walking: AC – To perform live in front of an audience.

[Blaster] Can you recall the moment when you thought you could be in this group?

Red Door Walking: AC – Like we’ve mentioned before it was on that hot summer’s day on the beach in Ibiza. Regarding the name and just like everything else so far, we’ve been really lucky and things have just fallen into place. The name came easily to us and we both loved it. It’s almost like it chose us.

[Blaster] Do you all hang out socially apart from the music? When you aren’t working on music, do you guys hang out for fun?

Red Door Walking: AC – We are a couple, we live together, we work together, we have fun together… And we are not sick of each other. Yet…

[Blaster] Where do you think you are all happiest- in the studio recording new music, on stage performing or elsewhere?

Red Door Walking: Both – On stage performing.

[Blaster] What do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people continue to take away from your songs??

Red Door Walking: AC – To question outside of the box. Know your power, know your worth and keep on keeping on.

[Blaster] Are there any funny stories that happened to you while traveling together, that you want to share with our readers?

Red Door Walking: AC – So many. Thinking…
AM – I clearly remember that time that we went for a gondola ride in Venice at night and as soon as we stepped into the gondola Abbey asked the gondolier if he served drinks onboard. The man disappeared for one minute and came back with a bottle of Prosecco and two glasses. Bliss…

[Blaster] Would you like to give any message to your fans?

Red Door Walking: AC – If you have people putting you down, you’re doing something right.
